Not simply scorching air: a convection microwave – CNET Information
Loyal readers of the blog know it is usof . So when LG rolls out a device called the DuoChef, you can bet we’re done with it.
The DuoChef MC8088HLC was only announced last week at the IFA – this is of course the Internationale Funkausstellung in Berlin, the world’s largest trade fair for consumer electronics (at least according to the website). And which two functions does the DuoChef combine? Well, it’s an oven and microwave combo – the first convection microwave oven with a double convection system that uses two fans to improve baking and defrosting performance.
The two fans in the oven circulate the air quickly and distribute the head more evenly than any other microwave. So that mince stone you forgot to thaw this morning can be made pliable in a few minutes, and your famous lasagna can still be on the dining table tonight.
Inside the oven are the traditional two-tier cooking shelves for batch baking and preparing multiple dishes for meals. In addition, the oven offers automatic cooking programs for many foods, including baked potatoes and vegetables, rice, pasta, and even cakes. And the Auto Roast menu produces perfectly cooked meat with no problem or worry.
But it’s the Even Defrost feature that LG is really touting. Conventional microwave ovens only defrost with microwaves. The DuoChef uses a combination of microwaves and convection heat to dissolve ice on the surface of the food while penetrating deep inside. The process eliminates the hotspots and cooked areas that are all too common when defrosting food in the microwave. It is gentle enough to thaw even delicate breads without destroying their moisture and texture.
The DuoChef is available in free-standing and integrated configurations.
